2016 JSPS-NIH Forum

The JSPS Washington Office and Fogarty International Center (FIC), NIH held the JSPS-NIH Forum on March 11, 2016 at the Lawton Chiles International House “Stone House,” NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.

This forum focused on the fellows of the JSPS Research Fellowship for Japanese Biomedical and Behavioral Researchers at NIH (KAITOKU-NIH) and Japanese researchers in the Biomedical field.

At the beginning of the forum, the attendees observed a moment of silence for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011.

The forum started with the welcome remarks by Dr. Yasuhiro Iye, Executive Director, JSPS Headquarters; followed by Mr. Tomohiko Arai, Science Counselor, Embassy of Japan in the U.S.; then by Dr. Yoh-suke Mukouyama, Senior Investigator, NHLBI and Chair of the Review Panel of KAITOKU-NIH.

Following the welcome remarks, two invited speakers and current/former KAITOKU-NIH fellows gave presentations as follows;

At the following reception, Dr. Keiko Ozato, Senior Investigator, NICHD who is a former Chair of the Review Panel of KAITOKU-NIH and Dr. Peter Kilmarx, Deputy Director, FIC delivered opening remarks and Dr. Michael Gottesman, Deputy Director for Intramural Research, NIH followed by a toast. Over 90 participants, including KAITOKU-NIH fellows, their host researchers, and NIH researchers attended the forum and strengthened their friendly and collegial ties.
