ARTICLES OF THE US JSPS
FELLOWS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
ARTICLE 1: Name
The name of the organization
shall be gUS JSPS Fellows Alumni Associationh,
and shall hereafter be referred to as gthe
Alumni Associationh
ARTICLE 2: Objectives
The objective of the Alumni
Association is to maintain the network of JSPS
fellows and to promote US-Japan scientific
cooperation. In pursuit of these objects, the
Alumni Association will carry out the following
activities:
(1) Foster and encourage US
alumni and young researchers to maintain and
develop relationships with Japanese host
researchers.
(2) Host science related events (forums,
conferences, etc.).
(3) Issue news letters at least
two times a year.
ARTICLE 3: Program Year
The fiscal year for the Alumni
Associationfs program runs from April 1 to
March 31.
ARTICLE 4: Membership
(1) All persons who have received
or will receive support from following JSPS
programs and now are living in the US are
eligible for the membership.
Postdoctoral Fellowships for
Foreign Researchers
JSPS Summer Program
Invitation Fellowship Program for
Research in Japan
(2) Individuals that are
interested in pursuing and achieving the Alumni
Associationfs objectives are eligible for the
associated membership by being given permission
from the chair of the executive committee.
ARTICLE 5: Organization
(1) Fifty states, District of
Columbia and territories of US are recognized in
five regions as following.
. Northeast - Connecticut,
Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New
York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont,
Virginia
Southeast - Alabama, Arkansas,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West
Virginia
Midwest - Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,
Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska,
North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin,
Wyoming
Southwest - Arizona, Colorado,
Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas
West ? Alaska, California, Hawaii,
Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington
(2) A representative is elected
from each region by mutual vote among the members
who are residence of the region.
(3) The five region
representatives form the executive committee.
ARTICLE 6: Executive Committee
The executive committee (hereafter
gthe committeeh) is set up in the Alumni
Association.
(1) The committee is formed by
five region representatives.
(2) A chair and a vice-chair are
elected by mutual vote among the committee.
(3) The term of office for the
committee members is two years. Until a re-election
of the committee is held, the members are to
remain in office. If a member resigns his/her
post in mid-term, the committee will appoint
another person to fill the remainder of the term.
(4) A committee member may be re-elected.
(5) The elections shall be held
every two years.
(6) The committee members shall
serve without remuneration.
ARTICLE 7: Responsibilities of the committee
(1) The chair presides over the
committee, supervises activities of the Alumni
Association, and is the official representative
of the Alumni Association.
(2) The vice-chair assists the
chair, and acts for the chair in the absence of
him/her.
(3) The committee shall have
responsibilities for achieving the objectives of
the Alumni Association.
(4) The committee shall consult
with JSPS Washington Office about their programs.
ARTICLE 8: Establishment of the
Alumni Association
The Alumni Association shall be
established on the day Junbi-Iinkai (Preparatory-Committee)
acknowledges the Articles.
ADDITIONAL RULES:
(1) gJunbi-Iinkaih committee
which was formed to set up the Alumni Association
shall take office of the executive committee
until March 31, 2006.
(2) These Bylaws may be amended,
repealed or altered in whole or in part by a
majority vote at any regular or special meeting
of the executive committee.
